Appropriate
Technology
The Falls Brook Centre Appropriate Technology Program focuses on community sustainability by demonstrating, promoting, and developing clean, efficient, and renewable alternatives to current coal, oil, and gas intensive energy systems.
Outreach & Education
Renewables NB
Creating a renewable energy hub for our province.
Falls Brook Centre has established a Renewable Energy Information and Assistance Centre for North-Western New Brunswick (NWNB). We will be working with theConservation Council of New Brunswick and Cape Jourmain Nature Centre as part of their plan to provide Renewable Energy support services across the province. The north-western Hub office will be at Falls Brook Centre. As is often the case in rural communities much of our work will be off-site outreach. We plan to provide information on renewable energy technologies, link people with demonstrations of renewable energy technology, and provide advice on adopting renewables in the home, small business or on the farm. It will also build a network of NGOs, businesses, municipalities and citizens interested in renewable energy. The first phase of this project is to collect case studies of renewable energy installations – residential and commercial – in order to create a website and engage the public in encourage more renewable energy installations. If you have installed a renewable energy system in your home or business, or are interested in doing so, please contact Greg LeBlanc for more information: greg@fallsbrookcentre.ca, (506) 375-4310
Light bulbs, Shower heads, and beyond
Building skills for net-zero housing and communities.
Light Bulbs, Showerheads and Beyond is a series of workshops and presentations developed to engage, inform, provide solutions and facilitate action towards net-zero strategies for the average householder. The workshop series will begin with brainstorming sessions that involve general public, local builders, suppliers, installers, government agencies. These brainstorm sessions will identify regional opportunities and barriers to implementation of real strategies that move homeowners onto the path of significant greenhouse gas reductions within the residential sector. Public education opportunities will be matched with professional skill building workshops aimed at trade professionals ready to tool up for assisting in the design and renewable energy installations needed to achieve affordable net-zero homes and neighbourhoods.
Working in partnership with local actors, Community Service Groups and not-for-profit developers, Light Bulbs, Shower Heads and Beyond will facilitate an evaluation of the latest appropriate technologies, discuss potential obstacles (awareness, financing) as well as address the need for an energy-conscious life-style shift. The Professional Skill Building component will provide hands-on workshops for trade professionals in renewable energy technologies and Sustainable Community Design. If you are interested in any of these topics, please contact Greg LeBlanc for more information: greg@fallsbrookcentre.ca, (506) 375-4310
