Information for Apprentices

Are you an aspiring organic farmer, yearning for a real learning experience that gets your hands in the dirt and your head in the books?  Organic farm apprentices get the real dirt on what it takes to make the farm viable, but it requires a dedication to learning through hard work with great rewards.  The application deadline for 2008 apprentices is a "first come, first served" basis, so send in your applications soon.    

To apply to be an apprentice, follow the steps listed below:

1. Read:

  • (PDF - for printing and completing by hand) 
  • (MS Word - for completing by computer).

3. Provide an up-to-date resume with 3 references (1 professional, 2 personal).

4. Answer the questions: "What are your future intentions in organic agriculture?  How will this program help you get there?" in approximately 500 words.

5. Include application fee of $35 (cheques made out to "Falls Brook Centre").

6. Send your Apprentice Application, Resume, Essay and fee to:

Past On-Farm Organic Research Reports

Expanding our collective knowledge about organic farming techniques and applications is crucial to moving organics into the mainstream.  On-farm research projects are part of the NBOFAP - designed by farmers and apprentices, with advisory assistance from the Organic Agriculture Centre of Canada (OACC) and the New Brunswick Department of Agriculture and Aquaculture (NBDAA).  Click on the reports to the right to see what apprentices discovered in 2006.

Soil workshop tourAre you already farming or gardening, but want to learn more about organic techniques and meet others involved in the Atlantic organic scene?  The Farming Organically Workshop Series is open to the public, meeting one day a month at different farms from May to October.  Topics include soils, pests, livestock, marketing, business planning and more.
