Supplier: Radiant Floor Company (http://radiantcompany.com/ )
Description of Case Study: This old church was bought and refurbished to be turned into a community and arts & nature centre for a land trust in Knowlesville, NB. To provide heating, an in-floor radiant heating system was installed, which uses heat produced by a wood stove to heat propylene glycol, which is stored in a hot water tank and then pumped into tubes that circulate through the floor. The tubes heat up sand, which in turn heats the floor and air above it.
This building is off grid, with two thin film PV panels supplying power to a bank of batteries which run 6 12V El Sid pumps to circulate the glycol. The PVs also power the building’s lighting needs. In order to retain heat, cellulose was blown into the walls and attic, and Styrofoam was placed below the floor. |
