Energy Mindfulness Workshops held in Fredericton & Moncton

Global warming is one of the most serious challenges facing the world today. To protect the health and economic well-being of current and future generations, significant green house gas reductions are needed.  Reducing green house gas emissions means a change in lifestyle.  It is important to keep encouraging the small daily actions of energy conservation, efficiency and renewable energy generation; however, it is equally important to start modelling different approaches to revitalize the places where we live, based on an ecological, conservation-oriented framework.

Falls Brook Centre, with funding from EcoAction Canada, is piloting a series of workshops this spring to engage people in discussion and thought around how we can design our communities to be mindful of energy and fuel use on a number of levels.  The Ecological Design Workshops are focussed on a number of issues, from designing neighbourhoods that reduce the need for car travel to an examination of renewable energy and natural building techniques that can be applied in concert with energy conservation.Brent presenting in Moncton

Brent Crowhurst recently presented two Energy Mindfulness workshops.  These workshops are an introduction to energy conservation and efficiency and provide an overview of renewable energy technology, economics, and policy in New Brunswick.

The first was at “The Sacred Balance” seminar on May 2, 2008 at the Wilmot United Church in Fredericton where Dr. David Suzuki was the keynote speaker.  This workshop was a more intimate setting in the Church nursery where participants asked many questions and shared their perspectives on energy and environmental issues.  Many of the details of Brent’s presentation provided a local New Brunswick perspective on the topics later discussed by Dr. Suzuki.

The second was at the Moncton Earth Day Green Expo Extravaganza on May 4, 2008 at Bernice MacNaughton High School.  At that event Brent was one of the four conference speakers who presented in the school auditorium to quite a large crowd.  The session presented by Brent also included an address by Professor Rob Moir PhD. Economics from UNB St. John.  The Falls Brook Centre also had a table display showcasing their Energy Education Kits, Energy Empowerment Workshops, and Renewable Energy Policy Suggestions.
