Justice has come to Carlton County!

The Environmental World Council was launched for the first time at Carleton County High Schools!

This winter and spring, the Falls Brook Centre offered students from grades 9 to 12 at School District 14 the opportunity to participate in a very engaging game: the Environmental World Council. The game develops citizenry skills and tools to get involved in local and global environmental justice cases; topics such as globalization, ecological governance and environmental justice were explored in a fun and interactive way.

The Environmental World Council employs a talking circle, and trough role playing, students aim to meet the needs of injured parties and restore social relationships.  The Council facilitated youth’s participation in inclusive decision-making and problem solving processes within a context of values such as justice, fairness and equity, and promotes the creation of leaders of social transformation.

We met in the classroom, and had lots of discussion and debate. The process was facilitated by the Falls Brook Centre staff and had good support from host teachers and students. We really thank them for all their effort and enthusiasm!

If you have any questions regarding the Environmental World Council, or want to book it for your classroom, please do not hesitate to contact me...
