Canning and Preserving Workshop

 

Finally, after months of rain, the sun has come out and begun to ripened all our fruit and vegetables.  Just in time for a summer canning and preserving workshop! 

This past Friday three community members and a Falls Brook Centre wwoofer along with three staff members had a hands-on experience learning three different methods of preserving fruits and vegetables from this summers’ harvest.  We got our hands dirty picking berries and turned them into jam; we pickled spicy dill cucumbers; and, with the help of a pressure cooker, canned beans in tomato sauce. 

Participants learned about food safety, sampled juice made fresh from the berries they picked and at the end of the day took home some delicious jars of home made preserves.
