Learning about Wetlands
Every spring Falls Brook Centre collaborates with Ducks Unlimited Canada to present Project Webfoot, a hands-on educational program designed for fourth grade students. By creating awareness of the importance of a healthy ecosystem, Project Webfoot works towards building the next generation of leaders in environmental conservation.
The program consists of a 2-hour session during which students learn about the essential role that wetlands play in the lives of animals and people in Canada. Students play a game called “Migration Headache”, where they learn about migrating birds who depend on healthy wetlands; they have face-to-face encounters with the fascinating, tiny creatures who live in the frog pond; they learn about the value of wetlands on a 2km hike over boardwalks & through the Acadian forest; and they have the chance to visit a real live beaver dam and learn about how wetlands are created. This is a fantastic outdoor learning experience that challenges students to think about nature as an interconnected whole and highlights the importance of conservation.
To reqister your class for this program sign up at Project Webfoot. If you are within Carleton or Victoria County, you can request that your field trip be at Falls Brook Centre.
