Environmental World Council

A Role Playing Game on Environmental Justice for High School Students

The Environmental World Council gives students the chance to explore rights and duties as global citizens through role playing activities to put participants in ‘someone else’s shoes’ and then create connections between our actions as individuals and their impacts on the global community.

The Environmental World Council employs a talking circle, and trough role playing, students aim to meet the needs of injured parties and restore social relationships.  The Council facilitates youth’s participation in inclusive decision-making and problem solving processes within a context of values such as justice, fairness and equity, and promotes the creation of leaders of social transformation.

All students have the opportunity to be part of the Council. We meet at the classroom and solve a case on environmental justice [two class periods in a single week]. All the materials are provided by the Falls Brook Centre and facilitated by the staff.

The Environmental World Council links to curricula outcomes for World Issues and Environmental Science (11/12), but it's use is open for other interested teachers teaching Law, Canadian Geography and Political Science.
