Eco-Clubs are Cool!

Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Encourage your classmates to be lunch-litter free by having a tupperware rally; have a paint-your-own-tupperware station
    paper

  • Get critical and creative about stuff: what about a Photo-Exhibit about how you can use 'stuff' and especially 'stuff' known as 'junk' in new ways. For example planting a seedling in a tin can.

  • Become a Clutter Buster by encouraging your classmates to get rid of things they don't need both in their school (locker & desk) and at home

  • Hold a clothing swap and get a new wardrobe without buying a thing!

  • Learn about Vermicomposters and consider getting one set up in your science classroom. Vermicomposters have red wiggler worms in them, which digest raw food scraps into a nutrient-rich fertilizer. This fertilizer, known as castings, makes house plants flourish and gardens bloom. You can purchase red wigglers from companies such as the Jolly Farmer.

  • Learn about the native species in your school yard. How can these species better flourish and be used to landscape the school grounds?

  • Suggest to your teachers to have some class plants. They can be plants from different countries. ssjulie

  • If you're fond of class pets, why not consider getting a vermicomposter?

  • Can you find any native species in your school yard?

  • What can you do for a healthier student body, school and
    environment?
